that's cool. mine ate her first rat last night also. actually it's the first time she ate since i bought her over 2 months ago. i kept trying to feed her live, prekilled, and frozen & thawed mice of various sizes but she wouldn't touch any of them. so, i decided to drop a live 5 in. long rat in there a few days ago, and she wouldn't touch it, i figured i had a new pet rat until it wasn't there this morning. i was starting to get worried a little that she was going to starve herself to death. so, i guess i'll just drop a live rat in there once a week and see what happens.

Any time you feed a live animal, it should be supervised.

thats cool that your snake ate its rat. last monday my male ate two "small rats" and my female? ate one "small rat". i didnt have any problems with them eating them. no regurge with either of them. i dont know if i want to keep them on rats though because it doesnt seem like my female? coils tight enough and i had to stick a pen in the rats mouth to keep it from biting her. my male does just fine i dont really have to worry about him ....... but i still watch very closely and make sure it is not hurting him in any way :) what can i say i worry about my babies!!!!

Have you tried pre-killed? There's a great post in here somewhere about how adam feeds all of his balls (he feeds live). I can't remember exactly. I think he leaves the box of mice/rats in the room for about 15 to 20 mins, long enough for his ball pythons to smell it and start getting excited. Then he starts feeding everybody.

I second what Adam said about feeding live rats w/o supervision. We have rats just for pets and one is a bit nippy. Even a nip from a rat is pretty powerful (as I can well attest to having to handle this rude male regularily) and they are survivors of the highest degree. I don't have a problem with live feeding vs pre-killed or frozen/thawed I'd just be concerned about leaving a snake unsupervised with a prey item that is very able to defend itself.
