    Same gene morphs
    Alright, I did a quick search for "Black Eye" to look up Black Eyed Leucistics so I would know what other snakes (I believe Sulfur was one in the past) made a a black eyed lucy, and apparently I failed. Which also got me thinking about the other genes which are essentially the same, with minor differences, some of which I prefer over others (Lessers and Black Pastels).

    Can we gather together a decent list of snakes which are all the same gene with, essentially, different lines?

    Lesser, Butter, Mojave
    Black Pastel, Cinnamon
    Etc.

    The thing is that they lesser and mojave as well as cinnamon and black pastel are actually different mutations. Lesser, butter, and mojave are all part of the blue eyed leucistic complex and cinnamon and black pastel are part of the cinnamon complex.

    Butter and Lesser can be argued to be the same gene that come from two different lines but no one is really sure.

    The fire complex is a tricky one in that there quite a bit of genes that fall under that complex, (fire, vanilla, sulphur, disco) but only super fires and super sulphurs and i assume fire sulphurs will make a black eyed lucy.

    This link should help.

    This kind of answers your question. OWAL put all this together. I think you meant complexes in your question?

    Mojave is not a line of Butter/Lesser. the three are in the same BEL complex, but the Mojave is a different morph.

    off the top of my head, some lines of the same morphs include...

    banana = coral glow
    black pastel = cinnamon
    butter = lesser
    calico = sugar
    ghost = hypo = orange ghost
    mystic = phantom

    and then there are a few lines of Axanthic and a million Pastel lines.

    This is one of the areas where simplified ball python genetics get us in trouble. The op is actually correct in their title. The fact that a morph can combine with another morph to create a similar animal as if two of the same morphs suggests that they are the same gene just slightly different alleles. A gene is something that describes a trait and an allele describes the specific phenotype of said trait. For example there is a gene for snake color and the allele would be the light tan of lesser. This of course over simplified as humans have tens of thousands of genes. It is pretty confusing and hard to convey over a forum post, so sorry if I only added to the mystery. I had to double check a few points myself. In short mojave is likely a different allele than lesser, but I believe they are the same gene by the way they react when combined.

    My point in asking this question was to get something like those links. I don't want to add butters into my collection so that when I breed I don't end up muddying up the lines and have more difficulty in descerning the offspring. The same goes for Black Pastels, Fires, etc. I'd rather avoid the confusion of mixed lines.

    What about "Green Ghost" would this fit in this line as well?

    I found a post from Corey Woods that says his green ghost line is compatible with orange ghost.
