new BP very active in tub all day
My new BP (I got him on Saturday, it is now Wednesday) is extremely active in his tub. He tries to escape each time I open the lid. The hot hide is about 85-90 with the IR gun and the cold side is 71-75. Any input is greatly appreciated, I don't know what's wrong. I'm extremely worried that he's not happy in his tub and would appreciate any suggestions about what I should change. I can't figure out how to post an image, I just joined, but the photo of his tub is in my profile.
Re: new BP very active in tub all day
How big is your bp, and how big is the tub? Do you have ventilation holes in the tub? What is your humidity like?
Also, bps can be testy to see if they can escape. I had a female bp that i had for 2 years and she randomly decided to test the lid, and I found her in my closet trying to climb into a box.

It's a 30 qt tub, 9-3/4" x 15-3/4" x 8" h. I don't know the humidity. We are in Houston, it's August, so it will be fairly high but I plan on going to war mart tomorrow to get a hygrometer. There are ventilation holes drilled around the sides of his tub. The BP is 2 months old, so quite small.

sorry, 19-3/4", not 9-3/4

First I would get the low side up to about 80-82 and high side 88-90. As far as the tub yes it is a bit big but if you add a bunch of things to make it more cluttered (rocks, xtra hides) till he grows you should be ok. Also what are you heating the hide with? Does it have a thermostat for it? Never use a uth with out one!
Re: new BP very active in tub all day
He has a UTH on a thermostat. I got a thermometer/hygrometer to put on the cool side. That's when things got crazy. I left for the day and came home to 90% humidity and 90 degrees in the cool side despite that I had been using the IR gun and getting significantly lower readings earlier. I lowered the thermostat and added 1" or so of aspen bedding instead of paper towels and also added a rock and some foliage. I'm still waiting for the temp/humidity to normalize with the added substrate, but he's still cruising his tub and trying to escape. I will see how it turns out tomorrow. I'm very stressed here over his stress levels.
