I ordered some THG heat tape cause i cant solder to good. Just waiting for it to arrive. But i was just wondering what your opinions were about THG vs FlexWatt?

I have heard people sware by both and denounce the other. I feel like they are basically the same. People say THG is better because of the copper bars that run down the sides, but the flex watt has copper as well it's just a silver soaring on the outside.

    Re: Heat tape
Im aware of strips being different but original FlexWatt had copper showing. I have original 11 inch FlexWatt for back heat that i soldered. But after redoing my plastic rack the top tub is getting less heat than the rest. Tired of resetting thermostat 2-3 times a week. So after investigating my soldering work some of the 3 inch FlexWatt was melted thru, basically not type of connection on several. So ordered THG cause of rivet/grommet design. Easier for me.

I was going to try the rivet and grommet route but I couldn't find the right sizes I need so I bought a soldering iron. Bean Farm also sells metal connectors and clip covers for heat tape

Quality is the same, I have flex that has been going for about 6 years without any problems and THG since it came out.
    I solder everything.

I picked up some 1/4 in terminal connectors and 1/4 in grommets today and can say not the same size. Grommets are slightly bigger. Drill time

If you are ordering the THG which is what I used and had no issues what so ever, just get the rivets they sell with the tape. Follow the instructions for the tape that is on Reptilebasics.com I soldered my first rack but when I built my incubator I bought the rivets and did it that way. Was easier and less time. Just need a hole punch and crimp pliers and your done.

The grommets i bought came from wally world. Picked up 1/8 grommets from hobby store not too long ago. The grommets fit thru connector holes just right. No drill work needed. Yes, i could order thru reptile basics like i did the THG but i saved a few dollars thru lowes and hobby store. Now experimenting with left over 11 in flexwatt with grommet hook up.
