Do I really need a Herpstat 1 over an Intro+?
I'm going to invest in a better thermostat to accommodate my growing collection. Herpstat seems to be the general consensus. I like the safety features of the Herpstat 1, but I'm having a hard time finding the difference between the Intro+ and the Herpstat 1.

I use about 18" (12 inches wide) of THG heat tape from Reptile Basics to heat my tubs. At 23 watts per foot, that comes out to about 35 watts per tub. At that rate, the Intro+ should be able to power 8 tubs, with a little wattage left over. I don't have that many snakes (yet :P), and 8 tubs is a little more than I'm comfortable running off a single thermostat unless someone can convince me otherwise. So the Intro+ should work fine, right?

Is there any reason to get the Herpstat 1 over the Intro+ for an extra $40? It both looks like they have proportional dimming, which seems best for heat tape (right?).

    Thanks!

The safety feature is worth it. ;)

I ended up going with the Herpstat 1 over the Intro+, but for the fact that it can accept a grounded plug should I need it in the future. Looking on the website, doesn't the Intro+ have the safety relay? Or is there an additional safety feature I'm missing?

On an unrelated note, Spyder Robotics is ON THE BALL with shipping. Ordered 2pm local time, and received tracking info within an hour - and will have my thermostat on Saturday! :D
