    Craigslist deal - Retic
    hey guys,
I am finally taking the plunge: I found a good deal on craigslist for a 10ft SD sunfire tiger double het Anthrax and Purple Albino. However there is an issue: from what this guy has told me, she only eats live. he has tried to get her on frozen but to no avail. I am very much for frozen feeders, but if it comes down to it, i will have to do live. I just want to know if there is any true way to get retics on frozen? i know theyre very food driven, but this one particular snake just doesnt like the f/t feeders from what im told. im hoping to change that but it doesnt sound as though the owner has had much luck trying to switch her over.

In the case that i am unsuccessful in trying to switch her over, i would like to be well prepared for that. I an from the DC area so if anyone knows anyone who breeds rabbits and such please tell me who bc it would be nice to know a contact in the area.

    Thanks guys

With those genes I would find out exactly what % SD she is.

A live rabbit big enough to be a meal for a 10' or larger snake has the capability to seriously screw up a snake in seconds. She's also going to be eating every 10-14 days. Retics do occasionally go off food so you'll periodically end up with a pet rabbit.

My rabbit supplier is in Frederick, MD. There's a Facebook group called "Backyard Meat Rabbits" you can join to see if someone closer than that can keep you supplied.

That snake sounds too good to be true.

Maybe, maybe not. We've found some insane local Craigslist deals on adult boas and retics, and on enclosures for them, because people need to sell them fast (job loss, landlord freaked out or moving into a place where snakes aren't allowed, etc), and shipping big snakes and large enclosures can cost more than what you're buying.

Throw in "live feeder only" on a 10' snake and the price will have to be low because you can't feed it one (relatively) inexpensive 3# rabbit, it's way too dangerous, you're looking at 2-3 1# rabbits per feeding, plus travelling to get them several times a month if you don't raise your own.

The snake was going to come with a homemade enclosure, which I was really happy about, but after taking closer looks at it, it was very shabby and there was tape everywhere (corners and bottom edges), wired ventilation, and a light bulb on the inside. I couldn't take it.

I wouldn't trust any "het" as a second hand owner. Unless, they have paper work and proof from a legit breeder.

First it's not SD as pointed out so if it not you could hand up with a pretty large animal.

If you jump from no experience to a 10 feet retic that may not have been worked with on a regular basis, the prey item might be the least of your issues.

My advice if you want to get into retics get an hatchling and get it from a reputable breeder, a 10 feet female craigslist reject (that's already no as advertised) is not the best idea for a new owner to start with no matter are good the deal is.

suntiger het anthrax het purple ... no A lot of people are open about their anthrax projects, and this is not on the radar. And especially not in SD. There has been one project of SD anthrax crosses, and it was not a multi-gene cross. More than likely your snake would simply be a suntiger. Got a pic?
