Pairing young females to encourage feeding
    Hi everyone,

I've recently read that pairing a younger female that's 1100g+ to a male, can help encourage feeding and reduce the chance of a long fast,

    Has anyone tried this?

I know that 1500g+ is the norm for breeding, I'm just curious.

    Thanks!

Yes it can be done, should it be done well it depends on more factor than weight.

Would I pair a 12 or 18 months old 1100 grams female for her to resume feeding? Nope

Would I do the same with a 3 year old female? Yes

On the top of that it is also a matter of proportions.

While you goal might be that your animal resume feeding, the end game might still be eggs, so having the right conditions (age, size, proportions) are important.

If you're not willing to breed her at 1100 grams, you should not pair her with any male. If she's not feeding and becomes gravid and doesn't begin feeding, it would be a double drain on her system.
