Ball Python Will Not Hide
I have a female normal ball python, and she never seems to hide in her log hide anymore! I have the log hide on the warm side, and she has always hid there. I read that BPs like a lot of clutter, so I took it upon myself to buy a lot of fake plants and other things for her to hide behind. The problem is, she now seems more content behind the plants. I use an UTH as my primary heat source. This wouldn't concern me as much, but I know that when she grows bigger, those plants will not provide her with adequate cover. She eats like a champ, and rarely turns down a meal. Should I just leave her be and continue to up her hide size as she grows? Or should I take out the plants. Her warm side is about 90-92 degrees, and i do plan to get a thermostat. Please don't get mad, I didn't realize a thermostat was so important.

Unplug the uth until you get a thermostat and are the logs half logs? Typically those don't provide much security for BP's.
The RBI style hides are hands down the best in my opinion and they're very affordable.

Those RB ones are just so plain tho hahaha. I have my tank set up with asthetics in mind also. I still look for new hides regularly in case i come across something thats a little more secure while still providing an asthetic aspect.

Better than burning it to death. Don't risk it until you get a thermostat.
And no, your BP will be fine for a few days off the UTH. Just order a thermostat ASAP, like now. If you can't afford a herpstat right now, Amazon has a cheap one called a hydrofarm Jumpstart.

No he will be fine until you can get a thermostat delivered I would get one asap.
If you have a light of some sort like a CHE, day/night/infrared bulb etc use that for ambient heat.
Aesthetic is cool and can be done if he's your "display" pet but keep in mind you're not gonna see him out a lot if he's secure and comfortable, these are NOT energetic entertaining animals in the slightest.
If you're worried about aesthetics buy RBI hides and camouflage them in with vines or whatever suits your fancy kinda like brushing in a hunting blind. Trust me he'll appreciate the security of the dark tight space!

i'm not too worried about aesthetics, I just want to make sure that she'll use her hide, because when she gets bigger, those plants won't provide good cover.

Yea i mean i think both my hides are ok. One is basically a cave style. Its a little big for her right now but the opening is small and i figure she will grow in to it before too long anyway. the cool hide is log shaped but its only open in the front. Its nice and long and ive placed a large rock on half of the opening. Its super dark and tight. Ive found she spends most of her time in that one even though its the cool side. Temp inside there is usually 85-87 when she is in it. Thinking of getting the same style for the hot side but dont know if shes in there because its more secure or because she just wanted the cool side lol.

I'd definitely get RBI hides then they're fantastic. I don't see mine out AT ALL until it's close to feeding day for the smaller ones. The big ones can wait me out a bit longer. I say unplug the uth because of this. This is a big Mojave girl and even my 180-300g noodles do this. Both hides should be the exact same shape/size/style... otherwise you risk them choosing comfort over the correct temperature and they don't thermoregulate correctly. Half logs aren't ideal either.
