It's a bacterial RI. Now what?
Took my snake to the herp vet today and they did some tests, determined he has an early-stage bacterial respiratory infection and gave me oral baytril. I have been told to boost the temp and humidity slightly, which I did already. His symptoms are still subtle (just occasional clicking and sometimes a
head raise) but I didn't want to wait. Is there anything else I can do to keep him comfortable. How often should I disinfect his tank, and should I have him on substrate or would that make sanitizing more difficult? I have no other snakes so cross contamination is not an issue.

I am slightly upset that I have to disturb and stress him so often for his medications but I will try to make it as quick as possible.

edit: in my last post on this I was given a bit of info on his "convalescent" tank setup but I want to make sure I get it right. He kind of seems stressed without his plants and leaves; I don't want it to be too bare.

I'm not going to read back through everything. What is your heat source and where are you taking your temperature from(over/under substrate)?
    What is your ambient temperature?

Thermometer inside tank under substrate over UTH. ZooMed incandescent heat lamp and UTH with thermostat. Ambient temp is reading at 83. (F)

    Sorry. 86.

I wouldn't get the ambient any higher than 86*F and no higher than 92*F for the floor over the UTH.

Baytril is usually injected rather than given orally.

Thank you. I'm not sure why she gave it to me orally but I will administer as prescribed and if I see no improvement I will see a different vet.
