How to get a visual recessive x dominant ball python???? HELP
I have been studying up on BP genetics here recently but im have a slight bit of trouble and was wondering if anyone could help me. Im learning the punnett square but im interested in finding out how its possible to get a visual recessive dominant animal like a banana pied or a pastel ghost and so on.

In order to get a banana pied or other morph with a dominant and recessive gene, you can do it in a number of ways. You can breed a banana to a pied and get banana 100% Pieds and then breed those back to the pied, or you could buy a banana het pied and breed it to a pied (or het pied) and get one that way as well. Hope this clears it up a little bit. Same for the pastel ghost or any others with similar genetics

To visably pass along a dominant/incomplete dominant trait, only one parent needs to be carrying the gene. That's simple enough. In order to visibly pass along a recessive trait, both parents need to be carrying the gene (at minimum, be het for the trait).

So, in order to end up with a Banana Pied, for example, you need at least the following:
    • Banana het Pied
    • Normal het Pied

That way, the best case scenario is that all of these mutations are passed along to the offspring and you end up with a Banana Pied (1 in 8 chance with this particular pairing).

    Clear as mud? :gj:

They are codom. I was just wondering how to go about getting the recessive gene to be visual with a dom or incomplete dom because I love the ghost and pieds but also love the bananas, butters, ect. Basically I want the best of both worlds.

It is possible and simple the rest will depends on your budget whether it is about a dominant or co-dominant animal.

If you want to produce a Banana Pied (we will use that as an example) you will need to pair a Banana Het Pied to a het pied or a pied (for better odds)

Now depending on your budget and patience you can start from scratch with a male maker banana and a female pied, which will produce banana het Pied and Het Pied, than you hold back a male banana het pied raise him up to pair him back to the dam.

If you can afford I would suggestions get a female Pied and in about 12 months get a male banana het pied.

No matter what always get your female first and worry about the male 12 to 18 months later.
