    Half logs Ok to use?
Not sure why this didn't dawn on me until now, but are the half logs they sell for reptiles in pet shops ok to use for snakes? They look like they're made of pine.

While they are safe for reptiles I wouldn't recommend using the wood half-log hides for ball pythons or boas as they mold quickly in high humidity environments. Also they don't offer the security that BP's prefer since they're open on both sides.

Good to know. I'm working on a new enclosure and was planning on replacing it, but wanted to make sure she wasn't being harmed in the meantime.

I actually had it against the wall of her enclosure to provide security and she moved it so she could go in or out from either side.

I love the RBI hides and so do the hissy ropes.

I've used them the snakes didn't. I also love the reptile basics hides and my snakes regulate their body temp unlike when they had the half logs, well my one snake seems to really enjoy the cool hide. I would definitely check out the reptile basics hides, they are dark and not open like the half logs so they give the snakes the sense of security they need.

I use corner half logs and so does my snake, but I try to keep them covered with things for security. (There's a half log on the right under the vines and the back of the left hide is filled with plants. He'll hide in both.

i originally used some wood logs but quickly found that cleaning poop off them did not remove the bad smell. Over time they get gross and my snakes never used them to hide, just poop on.

Neither of my Ball Pythons would use one. Even when I covered up one end. They seem to be good for exercise (climbing) but not much else, IMO.

I've been using half logs with no issues for over 20 years. It really depends upon the snake.. The one thing I recommend is getting one that is the proper "fit". If it's too large they may not feel so secure.
