    No probing or popping?
Hello, I'm a new BP owner, after recently rescuing a normal from a friend who wasnt giving the proper care. About a week ago I took the BP to the vet to get a checkup because he had never had one before. The herp vet they have has 15 years of experience in the practice and so I asked if he could sex my snake. So he simply takes the snake from me, looks at the spurs and vent, then feels around above both the spurs and vent and then tells me it's a female. Not even a 10 second little look and feel. From what I've read here on the forums and on other websites the preferred and more accurate way to sex a snake is to probe or pop. What are your thoughts on this man doing neither and then telling me my snake is a female?

15 years experience in exotics does not means he see snakes that often and obviously by your little story he does not, my advice based on that consult find another vet that is truly experienced in reptiles. :gj:

Yeah, thats what I was thinking too. The place I get my rats from offered to do it, but I'm a tad scared to take my snake to them. Their rats and other animals at the store are okay, but I don't trust them to probe my snake. Just a cheaper place to get my rats from since they're the only ones in town. Thank you!

I can look and feel and get it right about 90% of the time. That said, when I do that it is just a game. I absolutely suck at popping so I always probe. It is not that hard to do if you have the right equipment (alcohol to sterilize the probes, ky jelly, and the right size probes) and have been shown how to do it correctly. Kinda scary the vet did not probe.
