What is the smallest kind of adult snake that can eat a jumbo rat?
I'm looking for a 'pet' snake to add to my breeding project. Right now I have king snake and ball pythons, but as far as I know neither one can handle a jumbo rat as an adult, need something that will eat my old breeders as I replace them. I'm looking for some kind of snake that can eat a jumbo rat, one that has a great appetite and one that doesn't get as big as my couch LOL. I think reticulated pythons are a bit too big for me, need something I can handle by myself. Maybe a boa? Blood python? ???

Blood python, jumbo once every 10 to 14 days.

Would a borneo just do larges, then? Since they're just a bit smaller than an actual blood?

Dwarf retics don't exactly have the best reputation for temperament either. Mine's got quite the 'tude when he wants to be a doo-doo head.

Ha! You know when i'm trying to figure out the next snake, and i want it to be medium big, my default is BI/BC, but then i see some insanely nice looking SD and think, "Well how much more maintenance could it really be?" Thanks for the reality check! :rolleye2:

Yeah just remember what goes in does come out. With that higher metabolism for retics more goes in... and more comes out...
