Breeding black pastel mystic x black magic concerns?
I hope this is in the right section. I am debating for my first clutch breeding a black pastel mystic to a black magic (black pastel, mojave). I've done some research and read about possible birth defects such as duck billing when crossing black pastel with another black pastel. Is there a large risk of this? And are there any other defects that these two morphs crossed would produce?

From the OWALReptiles - Issues (http://owalreptiles.com/issues.php) page:

Super Cinnamon & Super Black Pastel
Super Cinnamons/Black Pastels sometimes have an issue called a duckbill. They can have a narrowed nose near their eyes, making the end of their nose look wider, giving the illision they have a bill. I have read of a few cases where the deformity was too great for the animal to eat, but most of the time, it does not seem to effect their eating or cause any other issues, they just look different. There are also reports of having a higher than normal kink rate, while it still appears to be pretty rare.
    Hope this helps!

Go for it if that's what you want to do. From what I know more genes help reduce the possible birth defects in black pastel / cinnamon . There is still a risk but I wouldn't let that hold you back.

If you do go ahead with that pairing, you may want to try incubating at a lower temperature. There are some who have reporting lower instances of kinking when incubating at lower temps (86-87 degrees). Worth trying in my opinion.

More genes do not reduce it...

I am of the belief that they are your animals, do as you see fit. However, be prepared to cull. Hopefully nothing goes wrong but...

I have stayed away from these animals so far. I really do not like the possibility of spinal problems on a snake. My long time breeding goals all revolve around supers and ALS, so these no matter how beautiful do not fit my plans. That said I am a little bit of a hypocrite because I am playing around with spider. I also deal with lessers however there are no plans for a lesser x lesser breeding.

    Good luck
