1.5 yr old - sudden attitude problem
So the last two times I've gone to handle my bci he's been super nasty - coiling, lunging, even tagged me for the first time, refusing to be picked up. The first time this happened I assumed he was hungry, but it happened again this morning and he ate on Tuesday so I don't think there's a correlation. It doesn't look like a lunging for food stance. He seems to be telling me to get the hell out of his face.

He's 1.5 years old, been a total dream before this happened. He's my first boa and I've had him since November. Anyone know whats up?

Give him a bit of time - could just be growing pains. :D

Also, check your husbandry numbers. Might need to adjust something there. Reevaluate the prey size. Make sure he isn't ill.

Could be puberty/maturing, could be he's unhappy with his enclosure, could be he's become scared of you for some reason...

For sure check husbandry, too much warmth can make snakes crabby.

Well I think I might have found the problem. I checked him today and he's got mites. :/ I've never had a problem with this before. I know a reptile store near me sells PAM, should I grab a container of that while I give him a soak?

I would not leave him alone to soak unattended.

PAM works, just follow the directions. Since you've had this snake for eight months be prepared to treat everything in your collection - unless you just have the one?

I've been with him since I put him in the soak. (eta: I realize it sounded like I meant leave him to soak alone while I left the house, my mistake) Bunch of drowned mites and still a bunch on. I unfortunately have other snakes so they'll all be treated once I pick up PAM tonight.

I do have a lizard in the same room as my snakes though, do snake mites attack lizards as well?
