Does the Herpstat 2 control the temp of the heat tape or the ambient temp.?
I will be heating a styrofoam ice chest with UTH (taped on the inside of it) and was wondering how exactly the thermostat will control the heat. Does it sense the ambient temp and if it is above the desired temp. will it lessen the volt/watt output? Or does it only take the temp. of the UTH itself? I just don't want to create an oven for my animals.

I don't have the actual unit yet, this is all just some problems people have chimed in with. But if I were to go with the Herpstat, I'd put the probe on the UTH or would it be better to let it hang?
Also, I've been looking at the Hydrofarm (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NZZG3S), I've been recommended this as I'm only going to be using UTH. Have you heard anything about this Thermostat?

Scorpions and sling enclosures, they won't come into direct contact with the heat tape
