Too hot for flexwatt?

I bought a 5 tub 28qt enclosed rack with 11" back heat, and I am trying to get the temperatures under control. The herpstat probe is fastened to the flexwatt with foil tape, and I set the temperature at 96F as a starting point. Over the past week I have steadily raised the temperature and I am now at 112F. Is this too hot for the flexwatt? Can I raise it more? I'm only getting 87F in the middle back of the tub. Ambient temps are 84F hot side 81F cold side.

I have another identical rack with belly heat that I also have some issues with. I am able to get a nice hot spot of 91F in the middle tubs, but the first and last tub will be at 84F. What is the problem here?

You need to be more concerned with the temp at the bottom of the tub, under the substrate. You are going to fry your snake at 112°.

No, you are misunderstanding what I said. It's back heat for one, and the flexwatt itself is 112F. The back of the tub is not that hot, it reads around 87F. I'm concerned about what temperature is too much for the flexwatt to handle because I would like to raise the back of the tub temperature by a few degrees.

You should be fine.
I have a couple racks with back heat an they run about 112ish and have been or a couple years.

When I got my rack from AP the instructions mentioned not going above 105. Can't remember if it was dangerous to do so or if it just becomes more prone to malfunctions.

Do you know what size flexwatt that was for? Mine is 11". Maybe that influences how hot you can run it?

I think mine is 3" belly heat, a little different set up than yours so it might have different operational standards. I haven't been impressed with heat tape; i have been toying with the idea of installing a RHP.
