Hide and Seek

I took these pictures a while ago but don't think I ever shared. Five points if you spot the critter, 10 if you identify it from the first shot. Indigenous, found in north central florida.

I see its little face between the leaves! Hmm...not sure. Perhaps a legless lizard?

No but a fair guess. They both have those rather glossy looking scales.

Skink was my guess since they are in my yard. I wouldn't have a clue on what kind.

Great photo!

Plestiodon egregius similis, aka northern mole skink. Neat little fossorial critters that I don't see very often - usually just a flash of the tail as they dive for cover. When they get scared they actually tuck their legs and slither into the debris, like a snake.
