Post- first feeding question

I just got my first ball python yesterday.I had one as a kid and wanted one ever since.yesterday I finally got my girl "Khaleesi". I have done ashen incredible amount of Teanec research over the past3years. And now I am gaining the hands on experience at last. When I brought her home I thought she would spend most of the next few days in her hide box until she felt comfortable but that wasn't the case. She seemed to love to explore the new environment. Today I fed her two small mice. She ate both eagerly.which was surprising to me but now I'm worried. I fed her around 10 am today and she has spent the entire day in her hide with little movement. I figure she is just digesting and doesn't want to move. But I just want a Little reassurance

This is perfectly normal. Think about it, right after a big Thanksgiving dinner, you wouldn't want to go for a jog around the neighborhood, would you?

My BP Karma stays in her hide for about 16 hours after eating before coming out and doing anything. And if your BP is just hiding all day don't worry, it's what ball pythons do. They're also nocturnal, so don't really expect her to do a whole bunch of moving sound during the day anyways.


You should probably get her switched over to rats also, you might get tired of having to feed multiple move everytime she eats. Rats will be easier as she gets bigger.

If you buy a new house, you want to explore it, right? Well i guess not ALL people are like that, but some are. All of my snakes like to explore their enclosure when they are first put in there, or if i change /add things, so no need to worry :)

Also, try not to change/move things around too much.

For small animals, like hamster, guinea pigs, etc. moving things around their cage frequently keeps them not so bored. Not so much with ball pythons. Too many changes in their enclosure might stress them out and of course, stress means not eating.

Not sure, but just saying, if you wanted a snake that is gonna be all around the enclosure, not really hiding that much, very interactive...a BP is not the snake for you.. Maybe a corn or a red tail(if you can handle that..):D
You might see your ball python exploring at night time or getting a drink of water, but other than that its mostly gonna be hiding. The only time I ever see Karma(other than handling:rofl:), is when she's drinking, occasional soak, and when she's telling me that she's hungry c:
