Second feeding

Based upon info gathered from some tips and very helpful knowledge on a separate post I bought a hopper today for ziggy's second feeding. Question is this...leave it alive and monitor very carefully or knock it against the wall once or twice and drop it in knocked out bleeding from the skull (candy coated) ??? Let's hear those opinions, pros and cons !!!

Feed live and monitor, in this case, and then consider working towards making the switch to F/T.

Please don't knock any live animal against the wall. Pre-killing is an option but it must be done correctly. Cervical dislocation is the most common method and is considered humane.

Did it eat a live, pre killed, or f/t first feeding? Since this is the second feeding you should feed whatever the bp was eating before you bought it. Ik a lot of people do it but personally I am against killed a live rodent unless you use a co2 chamber but if you decide to kill it then make sure it is dead before you feed. Being how small hoppers are you could drop it in alive and it is unlikely anything would happen.

Actually the only killing method that is considered humane is by co2. I think this is according to the American Veterninary Association. But if you don't have the things to make a co2 chamber and can't get it before feeding time then I would say Cervical dislocation would be the next best option even though I still disagree with it. Just make sure it is done quickly and painlessly.

Good info thank you. And I promise you I was not looking forward to knocking it against the wall. I was only going with the options given to me by another BP owner who didn't seem to have a clue....so sincerely my apologies if I offended anyone. And the first feeding was a pinkie thawed but wasn't big enough and only wanted to eat it because we moved it around a little like it was roaming his home.

If Co2 is used that's displacement/starving for O2......then more or less that would be suffocation so maybe a ziploc bag would work ???

I would not do that. It would take awhile and be painful. Co2 only takes a couple minutes and they just fall asleep. Just feed it live, its size shouldn't pose a risk but still keep on eye on it.

I just dropped it in live and it didn't take 3 seconds he was on it !!! I think live feeding with a careful eye is going to be my choice for meal time.
