    Bredli defecation query
    Hi

Thanks in advance for the advice, i've got a male Bredli who's about 1.5 years of age. He's on medium rats at the moment and is eating well every 10 days. I got him from a shady pet store because i just couldn't ignore him, his temperament is amazing and tolerates handling very well. I had some mite issues since the pet store was filled with them but have managed to get him cleaned out for now. Will continue with the mite treatment just to stay on the safe side.

Getting to my concern, he has been eating well but he hasn't pooped in 2 feeds (about 3 weeks). I can't see a bulge on his vent but i'd like to know if this may be a health issue? he has been given a bath during the mite issue, but didn't poop. Any idea on what i can do?

    Thank you

My carpets have gone 2 feeds without pooping before. Could he also be getting ready to shed? Sometimes they'll delay defacating until after a shed.

    Welcome to the forum dr.

My little Jungle girl, 1.5 yrs, goes between 4-6 weeks.

My three adult Coastals are similar at 4- 7,8 weeks.

It' strange too how some loads are small and some are huge, considering how they consistently eat the same amount of the same thing.

No worries, they go when they go.

Thanks, he hasn't turned blue nor has his eyes gotten cloudy, i'll keep an eye on him just incase. I give him a soak every alternate day to make sure the mites don't come back.

My female carpet is fairly predictable but my boa will hold onto his waste at times. As a general rule I don't feed any of my snakes until after they eliminate their previous meal.

With carpets, I don't think it is necessary but I do it. With boas it is an absolute key to health.

If you are overly concerned bump your temps a bit and add a touch of moisture for a couple days.

But like the others advised, there is nothing to be worried about.

If you see bloating down the line and there is still no elimination of waste, you should certainly look into it.

For now, stay the course and maybe hold off on food for a cycle if you want.

Hey, he finally pooped! i was soaking him to continue the mite treatment and he just let it rip. it was after his second feed though.
i'm not sure if he's in shed or not, how can you tell? his eyes haven't gone cloudy. It's easy to tell with the cornsnakes.

That's good to hear! At least that takes the worry out of your mind. I know when my carpets shed I can tell because they become really dull looking and they don't want to come out of their hides. From what I've seen on mine their eyes will go blue but I've never seen them as opaque as I have our balls.
