Black spot under both eyes?

My new ivory royal python seems to have 1 black spot under each of his eyes?

He was out last night (exploring in his tank) and I took some pictures and I've just noticed he's got a black spot under both his eyes?

He has no black spots in his water bowl or on him so I don't think it's mites..

Those are definitely mites. I bought a bp a while back and when she came to me she was soaking in her water bowl and had mites after I treated her she still had some mites left in her eye that couldn't just fall off. So if you sort of roll back the skin a bit by the eye like you would if you checking under your finger nail for dirt it should help the mite get out of there. Just be very gentle and it should pop right out. Hope this is helpful! [emoji4]

There is only 2 that I can see and it's on his eyes?? There is none on his body.. would they spread??

I have him on lignocel (loose substrate) should I take him off? I have never encountered mites before so I don't know what to do, 2 of my snakes (this one and a hatchling corn snake)are kept side by side on a large heat mat?

Could you advise me what to do please as I don't want them all catching these filthy bugs..

I'm not sure it's mites , could be substrate, but if it is then Buy something to treat for mites.Clean/disinfect everything and treat for mites. You Will have to treat all your snakes not just the one.
Look up treating from mites, what to use, when/how to use it and go from there.

Yes mites spread. Can spread very quickly. If it is mites your more than likely going to see some in the water bowl soon and your snake will be soaking alot

Gently remove it, if it removes easily, then crush it in a papertowel between your fingers. if it is a mite you will feel a crunch and there will be blood on the papertowel. That will let you know if you've got a mite or just some dirt that looks like a mite.

He is quite head shy so I doubt I can touch his head.

I also found one more under his chin so I know for sure now it's mites.

There isn't any mites in his water bowl.

At the moment I can only see 3 mites.

I have never been bitten by my snakes(or any snake for that matter) so I don't really want to get bit just incase I pull his teeth out, so I don't know how I'm going to get the mites out of his eyes? I don't really like man handling them.

Also what would happen if I actually touch his eye of my finger slips? Could it cause damage??

Also his head is quite small so I don't really want to grab his head because I might hurt him..

Now that you see that third one you know they are mites so don't worry about poking him in the eye. Start mite treatment for all your snakes right away. There is a lot of info on the forum on treating mites. Mites are no fun, but they aren't the end of the world. You've caught it early.

Also if you just got him contact the breeder/supplier right away and tell them about this.

The mite in the eye is going to be a tuff one, it may crawl out on its own. What I use for mite treatment is natural chemistry reptile spray on the snake and provent a mite for enclosure. Make sure you take snake and water out of enclosure when using provent a mite and let air out real good. With natural chemistry reptile spray just spray directly or put on a paper towel and let snakes run through a few times, I wouldn't get it in its eyes though and also soak snake after bc it access actually dehydrates the mites which also dehydrates your snake repeat every 7 days for a couple months to make sure you get all of them and any newly hatched ones. Both products really work well! If you decide to buy them just make sure you follow the instructions exactly!
