BP feeding help
My roommates and I went a little too long between feedings because of some miscommunication.
Brian, our BP, usually eats 2 mice. We went a few weeks longer than we should've feeding him, and he was without a light for a a bit. The light was replaced, and we gave him a few days to warm back up and then bought 2 mice for him to feed. The problem is, he only ate one. This was roughly 2 weeks ago, and now we're wondering if we should try again sooner rather than later when we would normally feed him.
The three of us are snake-noobs, and would really love some input!

Re: BP feeding help
Probably wouldn't hurt to feed him again as it has been 2 weeks. Also, I would recommend a weekly feeding if he will eat that often.

How big is he and how often do you feed him? I suppose slight underfeeding is better than overfeeding but you might be severely underfeeding.
Anyway, yes, go ahead and feed him now.

Re: BP feeding help
Any chance you can get him on a larger rat instead of two mice? From my understanding rats are better for them if you can get him to eat it, and I heard its better to feed them one prey item instead of two unless you have to. Especially since they sometimes will refuse the second one. You may actually not be feeding him enough if you are going longer than 2 weeks. How old/big is he now?

Some questions here....
1. Are you only using a light source for heat? A BP should have a source of heat that is not a light. if you're using a light for extra ambient temps during the day, that's okay, but Brian would be happier if the heat were to remain constant throughout the day/night. A UTH, CHE, or RHP are all good choices for heat that can be left on day and night without affecting the day/night cycle. ANY heat source must be on a THERMOSTAT or at least a dimmer of some sort and measured constantly. Just seeing that his light was out for a few days and he needed to be warmed up... concerns me.
2. I would do my best to maintain a regular feeding schedule. Every 6 or 7 days, whatever works best for your schedule. If you're normally feeding multiple prey items and one week he only takes one, that's fine. Next feeding day, offer both again. Sometimes he may not want that second item. On the flip side of this, he still needs to eat an adequate meal regularly. If you're all still learning, I would suggest picking up a kitchen scale at Walmart/Target/Amazon, etc... that weighs in grams, up to 2000g or more. This way, you can weigh your snake and his prey items. You want the pretty to equal about 10-15% of the snakes body weight. for a 100g snake, it should eat 10g-15g feeder. This will help you a great deal until you get a good idea for how much you should be feeding.
