    Pink belly/UTH
My ball python has a pink belly and he's getting close to shed (his eyes haven't blued over yet, but they should soon), but I don't know if he usually does that (some do, but this is only his second shed while I've had him). How does one go about monitoring a UTH (under-tank heater) - I can't find anything online regarding what instruments I need.

    Thanks!

Make sure you have a thermostat and a IR temperature gun. I personally use this (but I'm also a novice)

Having a thermometer to monitor the temps without having to use the gun is nice as well.

You need something to regulate the temp of the uth. The uth should not be plugged in if you don't. You need either a thermostat such as the highly recommend Herpstat by spyder robotics or VE-200 from Vivarium Electronics which is on reptile basics. Those are the top brands and if you can't afford them then there's always the hydrofarm and last would be a regular lamp dimmer from a hardware store like Lowes. IMO lamp dimmer should be last bc if your your temperature changes you are going to have to adjust it but with the thermostats they adjust automatically.

Then you need something to read your temps so it would be best to get a ir temp gun and a acurite 00891 thermometer with probe.

    You will need two things

A thermostat to regulate and maintain optimum temperature

A thermometer to monitor temperature at all time

In the mean time unplug your UTH IMMEDIATELY
