Pastel 50% ph Pied

Well, after getting a pair of normals here, I was afforded the opportunity to get a pair of my first base morphs. A pair of Pastels. Only after the deal was done, and the snakes were in my hands did the breeder state that they are 50% ph Pied. The father was a 100% het proven pied. I know there are no firm markers for pieds, and I don't go by them either, except for proving by breeding. I am excited about possibly making super pastels, but I would rather cross them out to my normals, and then start breeding back with half related and unrelated pairs to keep things good and interesting.

Healthy looking pastel pair. IMO, I would pair the two pastels ph pieds together first. You will give yourself more of a ratio at more morphs and less normals. Even a chance at pastel pieds visuals.

Ginvbch, thanks, I am in love with them and what they hold genetically.

Albert, they will be breeding ready long before the normal pair, so I have time to pop out a clutch of pastels, super pastels, and possibly those with pied in, and I can say I am really looking forward to seeing if they are both pied gene carriers. The fun and joy of the ball game. I am already looking at what I can combine them with in the future, depending on what is available here where I am.

They actually look somewhat promising from top, would you care to post belly pics of each? Toward the tail end.

I'm not sure what you're looking for, but I don't see the "usual markers" that everyone talks about on these two. Maybe you can enlighten me?

No markers are 100%. Some hets might now show them, but there are some signs for educated guesses like the head stripes connecting or being odd. Funky pattern, esp near the tail and of course the train tracks. None of mine have the connecting stripes, but I'll add a few of mine so you can compare. I'll cross my fingers for you in your future projects!

Pastel 66% het pied female. Her breeder said he was 99% certain that she would prove. I'm not as convinced as he is, but I feel like I've got a shot. Either way I think it will be a fun project.

Thanks for the reference pics Asherah, I can see what you mean. I know from reading that "markers" are still a guessing game, at best, that probably only increases your chances of picking the possible hets from a clutch, based on what all the babies may look like, and even if they don't produce any pieds, I would still be over the moon for at least one super pastel. When I was offered this pair, I was unaware of their ph pied genetics, and I was interested in the super pastels that could be produced, and what they can combine with. Always keep your options open for the unexpected though. ;)

That Pastel 66% het pied female of yours is a real stunner btw, and I hope she proves out for you!

Hey, then if you get a pied that's just a bonus then! I always think a remarkable simple animal is better than just about anything. I plan to pair my female with my male that was pictured. Like you, I'd really like a nice super pastel to hold back. I decided, if worst comes to worst and she doesn't prove, I can always hold back a female that looks a bit more promising.
And thank you! I think she was 972g last weigh in. I'm really pleased with the brightness and the yellows that she's retained at this point.
