Walter's fast is OVER!!

After 5 months Walter finally ate a rat last night. Tuesday he had a perfect shed and since then he'd been out of his hide more so I was pretty confident he would eat last night. Heating his f/t rat up with a blow dryer he came out of his hide and looked really interested but despite my trying he smelled all over it but wouldn't strike. Left the rat in front of his hide turned lights out and went to bed and this morning it was GONE!!! He eats like this about half the time anyway.
At 900 grms should I stay on the every two weeks schedule or try and feed him every week again?

Grate on him coming off his fast! Personally I would stick to a two week schedule. There is more of a chance with the extended time he will be more apt to take a meal. Most captive bred animals are overfed.

Thanks Albert, sure is a relief to have him eating again.

Congrats! And lucky! I'm still trying to get mine off his fast. As to how often to feed him it depends. If he needs to gain some weight, I'd stick to how you were regularly feeding him before, then maybe after a couple or so times, or more in the summer time feed once a week, maybe with a little bit smaller sized rats though. Not sure though, I haven't successfully managed to get my BP off his fast yet and this is the first fast I've experienced so.
Although, I have rescued some BPs(as you can tell in my signature) and if they're underweight, depending on how weak/neglected they were and what size they are I try to feed once a week.

That was my first fast and it sure was aggravating to say the least. I'm going to stick with every other week. He still looks really good and not thin what so ever. Good luck I hope yours gets going again for you soon as well.

Woot! My snake ate for the first time for me! I ended up having to use a hair dryer to warm the mouse up a bit as the warm water wasn't doing it enough. (Also the first time I've fed a snake F/T)

After a bit of my dangling the mouse in front of his nose he started to go into hunt mode but was more interested in my hand then the actual mouse since it wasn't warm enough initially :P.

fasting snakes can be frustrating. One of my rebels just broke a two month fast, i'm hoping that is the end of it and he'll get back on a weekly feeding schedule.

I have another who has only eaten for me twice since Christmas and i exhausted myself looking at temperatures different sized prey, mice vs rats, even tried certain colors. I guess they do what they want, keeping an eye on any significant weight loss is a good indicator of health.

I'm happy I can actually start to handle my snake now and slowly get him used to it... well at least 48 hours from now I can. I need to learn his/her personality a bit so I can give him/her a name.
