Temperatures

What should the hot side temp be for a red tail? What should the cooler side temp be? What should the ambient temperature be? I just want personal experience since the care sheets and YouTube videos all say something different. She's a baby, FYI prolly 6 months old!

That's because there isn't one. There are many variables which is why there is a range considered acceptable. If you read several care sheets or books written by experts you'll see a reoccurring temp range. Nobody will argue a 92 degree hot spot if you do OK at 90. If your cage is large enough and you have climate zones you can let your snake decide where it wants to be.

90/80 is the traditional hot/cool split, but these numbers are completely arbitrary. 90 deg is just a number higher than optimal snake body temperature, that also doesnt come close to burning the animal. 'Hot spot' could be anywhere in the mid 80s to mid 90s. If you read my other post on this, there truly isnt a correct answer. I simply dont use hot spots and my animals are growing and flourishing.

Thank you guys truly helped. I was more worried about where the cool side should be and how low it can drop at night.

Just make sure that your cool side temps dont drop below the high 70s.

THANK YOU! At night it's was getting to 73.4 f so I knew it was too low!
