Dwarf Freshwater Puffer fish
Ok, so i decided a Dragon Fish was not for me ( or my ten gallon tank)
So im looking for another kind of "oddball fish".
Yesterday i was in El Paso and i was at Petsmart ( i really like this petsmart they take EXELLENT care of thier animals) and i saw some really cute dwarf freshwater pufferfish.
They were only 3 bucks so i was going to get one but i wasnt sure of thier care.So i didnt buy one.
Will just one be happy in a ten gallon by itself ?? I know they are agressive so i wouldnt be able to keep them with my guppies, betta and neon tetras would I ?
What kind of food do you feed them ?
And how big exactly do they get ?

Hey Brandon, you probably already found this link but if you didn't I thought it might help you out. Sounds like a fun fish to own.

Re: Dwarf Freshwater Puffer fish
I have one of these guys! He's my favorite fish, sooo cute! I couldn't find a ton of information about them online, but mine has been thriving on frozen blood worms. I feed him with an eyedropper and it's kind of a pain because he's picky and likes his food moving, but my sister has one in her tank and it'll eat anything, so I guess it varies from fish to fish. I also give him those tiny little snails you see in pet store tanks, they'll give 'em away for free. I have in a 2 1/2 gallon tank with a Red Sea filter, alone, and he's been doing wonderfully since I bought him in September. You could probably keep a few in a ten gallon, they can be social fish as long as there aren't too many males in too small a space. I reccomend these guys, they're a fun fish with a lot of personality!

Awesome !
How do you go about sexing them. Will they fight with eachother ?
Im now having all these fantasys about buying some realistic coral decorations and getting a white kind of gravel to make it look like a saltwater puffer tank, i think that will be pretty awesome.
Ill check around for frozen blood worms. I may have to buy them in bulk from the petco in las cruces, i dont think im going to find any in my small little town. But ill call my little trashy pet store and find out what they have.
I would have to get rid of my current guppes and tetras wouldent i ?

As for sexing.. I believe one sex has a dark band on the belly while the other doesn't. I can't remember for sure though, sorry.
I also had one. Would only eat bloodworms. They are definite fin nippers, but you can keep many puffers together. They grow to about 1cm in length.

2-3 in a densely planted 10 gal is a good setup.
