You really don't need those sixty dollar pliers lol. Im not sure why anyone would buy them. All you need is a pair of vice grips or anything really that will uniformly crimp down the eyelet things (not sure what they're called).
Ive never tried soldering I've heard it works great but that also requires you to buy the equipment if you don't already have it. Most people have vice grips and if not you can get one for cheap

If you do leatherworking or know somebody who does, you can set the connectors with the appropriate-sized eyelet setter (as far as I can tell they are identical to the eyelets). We skip the grommets and use double-cap rapid rivets, which are even easier to set.

Well maybe they look nicer with the $60 pliers. All I know is that I've done all mine with vice grip and all my heat tape has worked flawlessly for over a year. That's right enough for me.
