Eye deformities colours and mutations
Sparked by a question at my college.
i would like to ask to see and list eye mutations, colours and anomalies both incubator related and not.
please post if you believe it was incubation related or genetic (either inheritance or anomaly)
do you think this eye mutation/color causes concern as to behavior or feeding response?
i would love to see eye color genetics discussed here along with the mutations so we can better understand it.
Eye mutations in certain animals can cause blindness or can be linked to cranial issues.

Super Lesser/Butters are known to have bug eyes - bulging eyes that stick outta their head. it doesn't affect their health tho, just looks funky.
Lesser/Butter Piebalds also have genetic eye issues. in this combo, they tend to have smaller than average eyes. again it looks funky.
and then there was this BEL (
http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...nsiderd-a-myth) which i think is a Super Lesser/Butter with a missing right eye and two pupils in the left eye. freaky!
thanks! do you know any of the combos with butter and lesser that have a tendency to produce eye problems?
Re: Eye deformities colours and mutations
Bug eyes are also a problem in some lines of leucistic Texas rat snakes. And small and missing eyes seem to turn up in Kahl albino boa constrictors more often than in normals.
There is a mouse gene named microophthalmia that produces eye abnormalities. On the other hand, small and missing eyes are a congenital abnormality in pigs that are vitamin A deficient. I am not convinced that eye abnormalities in snakes are entirely due to genetics. IMO, more study is needed.

i agree i've heard of it in incubation errors as well
