    Tub setup
When setting up a tub with a UTH - where should I place the thermostat probe.

Inside the tub, between the tub bottom and the UTH or affixed to the bottom of the UTH??

Just not sure what is best.

    Thanks

Inside the tub :) I use a heavy hide to "smush" the probe against the bottom of the tub so it's directly against the UTH and the snake can't push the probe around.

Outside of the tub, between the UTH and tub. If it's in the enclosure there's always a chance of the snake pushing it around and causing the heat to skyrocket to unsafe temps. I know my snakes love to "redecorate".

I put the probe on the heat tape (Uth in this scenario).Put a thermometer inside the cage at the hot spot and just adjust the thermostat gauges

Definitely never inside the tub. The thermostat probe needs to be placed directly ON the heat tape so that it is touching. I usually put aluminum tape on the cord just below where the thermostat sensor is. Then tape the cord down on the heat tape so that the probe is directly in contact with the heat tape. This is the only way you can accurately know what temp the tape is.

An IR temp gun is going to make this process a lot easier. It will allow you instantaneous readings of how hot the heat tape is getting, what the temp is inside the actual tub, and then you can use hat along with the perceived temperature from the thermostat to adjust accordingly to find the optimal conditions for your unique situation.
