Timor Pair

Figured I could use another long term project and these are nice to look at in the meantime. As an added bonus, this pair is super chill and handle well. Reckon I'll start pairing them up in 8-9 years.

That's awesome! Timors are at the top of my list currently on pythons to get. Where did you get those guys from? They are some really nice looking Timors.

Also, why 8-9 years? I knew they took a while to mature but I thought it was more like 4-5?

The hard part is finding people who have successfully bred them so I can get some info from the horse's mouth. From what I'm piecing together, these seem to be similar to the papuans in that you need to raise them up nice and slow if you want to reproduce. One fellow I talked to said his started copulating at ages 6-7 but didn't produce a viable clutch for another 4 years.

Are they also like Papuans where if the female hasn't been properly prepared to breed she eats the male?

I haven't come across any reports of ophiophagy for these - yet. This pair has also been sharing an enclosure for the last year without incident. I do have them split for quarantine but haven't made a final decision on how I'm going to set them up longterm.

Very nice project John. Those golden eyes are amazing.
