SO do you put the UTH on the cool side or warm side?

i feel like the ceramic heat lamp gets it hot enough of the warm side but the cool side is a little too cold. i have a 20gal.

You can try bumping the heat lamp a little over to the cool side. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you have a glass tank?
What are your temps for the warm and cool side?

well i have thermostat so i try to keep it between 85-90 in the day but at night when i get the tank from 80-85, the cool side goes to about 70-75.. i feel like that 70 is too cold, it makes me uncomfortable.. im getting my ball on Sunday, i want to fix this soon.

I personally wouldn't worry about it too much. As long as the entire tank isn't 70 the python will be able to control its own temperatures. (i.e. go to the warm side)
That's my take on it anyway.

My snake room being in the basement can get into the mid 60s. The cool side of my tubs during the winter never rises above 73. I have never in all my years bad an issue with it. As long as your snake has a warm place close to 90 and humidity is right, you will be fine.

I wouldn't worry- your BP will know to stay on the warm side if he needs it. You just have to make sure whatever heating you have is on a thermostat, so that he doesn't cook. They know the difference between warm and cold, but not warm and hot. :P

If It was me I would put the UTH on the warm side with your Balls Hide placed above it, they need belly heat be sure your plug your UTH to a thermostat, I then would position the CHE towards the middle of the tank a bit so it's heat is not hitting right on top of the Hide. Our Ball Pythons really need that belly heat along with Ambeident Heat.
