Ball Python Tank Setup

Hello, I am looking for some advice on my ball python enclosure. Currently I have a 150 watt infrared heat bulb for the warm area that is currently keeping my tank to base standards (75-85 floor temp and 75 ambient). I am deciding if I want to get the properly sized uth and place it on one side, or get the larger one and have it maintain a good portion of the tank's floor temps. Note that my room is usually 60 F and i currently have a heater running to keep the temps up in my room. I purchased a herpstat (arrived today) to both manage a future uth and humidifier. It is a 40 gallon glass tank with screen lid (covered with aluminum foil). I also plan to insulate 3 sides to retain heat. If i could figure out how to post pics I would, but i cant find anything that would put them from my gallery to here.

The plants are stuck to the walls so that it covers 1 entrance of the hide. Temperature sensor by half log hide is just under substrate in shade from plant. Other temperature senor stuck to wall. Humidy sensor laying on floor. Hopefully this will help a little.

Okay, so for my unprofessional opinion... I would get a good UTH for the warm side. those ambients are a little on the low side, but if you get a good UTH that can get your warm side surface up to around 90, I think you'd be okay. With that size tank and the infrared light, you may need to add a second water bowl to keep humidity up... maybe not, but just try it and see.

I personally don't care for the log hides at all. They can hold bacteria, they are hard to clean, and they are not as closed in and as tight as some other types of hides. personally, I really like the type from Reptile Basics (which you can make your own with some old plastic bowls or flower pots.

For your temperature and humidity, I would keep the sensors near the floor of the cage, since that is where your snake will be. If you have the digital gauges, even better, as they are easier for us beginners to use (they're sometimes more accurate as well, depending on the brand).

Ok, I was thinking about uprading hides to plastic containers anyways since he likes to curl up and raise them off of the substrate. I never put much thought into having easily cleaned decor. My sensors are all near the floor and they are all digital as well.
