How important is the branding of a ceramic heat emitting bulb? I'm seeing them priced at £5-£25. I know as a general rule you get what you pay for, but do I need to be buying say a Komodo branded bulb? Or will a general bulb for around £10 do? Cheers.

I've used the expensive Zoo Med ones, Exo Terra ones and the cheaper PetSmart ones and you know what......I have not seen a bit of difference.

I read an article on LLL reptile awhile ago about differences in heat bulbs and che and at the end it said bulbs that are say "Made in EU" tend to be higher quality then China bulbs. Apparently it has to do with how they dip them bc the bulbs and che that need dipped are more even when made in EU

Personally I say if it is on a t-stat then it doesn't matter. I have had all kinds of Bulbs and CHEs and they all worked without issue. All seemed to last quite a while and emitted heat just fine. :gj:

Thanks guys. I think I'll be buying as cheap as I can get made in the EU for quality.

Obviously I'll be buying a good quality light fitting and guard as I think that's important saftey wise.

Im looking at getting the white Python head guard and bulb fitting, anyone had experience with whitepython products here? Also what W would you suggest for a 24x18x18 viv with a UTH also.

If you are going to use a PVC cage, then skip a CHE and just use a radiant heat panel. If it's a glass tank, then for wattage, I would get a 150 watt and a lamp dimmer from a hardware store. That way you can adjust it to any temp yet still have enough headroom for more heat in the winters if needed. Or better yet, use a T-stat on it but make sure its a dimming or pulse proportional. I use Herpstats personally. I would avoid on/off types like Rancos or Johnson ones for a CHE. They work fine for UTHs though.
