So I'm a new owner and my house is slightly drafty. I'm having trouble keeping a constant level of heat. I currently have a uth on the side of the tank with a 75w infrared bulb on top. I have a blanket covering the screen top to try and help. It is a 40 gallon tank and temps are averaging 72 on warm and 68 on cool.

Where are your probes? Put the Utah on the bottom with a thermostat. Heat rises, warming the side of a tank and having it all escape up if its that drafty and cold isn't going to help.

If all else fails then you could buy some thin insulation board and cut it to size for the back and sides. Won't look very appealing but it'll fix your problem

Also, unless you already have a huge female you might want to just go down to a 10g or 20g. It'll be easier to get the ambient temperature up and help prevent eating issues by having it in too big of an enclosure to feel secure.

Can newspaper the outside with tape will keep heat in there nicely. Or spend $35 for a thermostat ;P.
