    Thoughts on this dog food?
Mazuri is increasingly expensive here (almost $1/lb :() so I'm looking into alternatives. Would this be a good "base" food to mix with oats, etc.?

That's about what I use. I started using the cheap stuff from tractor supply which is very similar with good results. I supplement with good scraps form the kitchen as well. You will know within a couple weeks if it is working for you. I noticed when I switched brands that the feces was less stinky. The foods with chicken byproduct crap made my rats have a more distinct odor.

There is something I cant remember about the "red 40 dye" that you dont want in the rodent food.

Red dye is carcinogenic definitely something you want to avoid in any food whether it's for a dog or even rats.

It is contained in many cheap dog food to make them look more meaty looking and therefore appealing.

The only cheap dog food I know of without those dies and that has the right protein content is Doggy Bag from tractor supply.

Thanks for bringing that up. I missed the red dye in that ingredient list. Good call

I had to wince at the 'Mazuri is almost $1 a pound' note. I pay $1 a pound for Mazuri, and consider myself lucky to have found a place that sells it!

Unfortunately, there's no Tractor Supply anywhere near here. I was feeding the Walmart 'mouse and rat' diet, which was actually more than $1 a pound. Though I have noticed since I got the Mazuri that the odor from all the rats has increased drastically, from barely noticeable to revoltingly pungent.

Unfortunately Canadian TSC doesn't seem to carry Doggy Bag from what I've seen at a few different locations. And they looked at me like I was a freak when I asked about ordering in Mazuri lol
