953 to 903

Walter my male super pastel weighed 953 on 12/25/15. He ate a small f/t rat on 12/26/15 and has since been fasting. Tonight I weigh him and he's 903 so dropped 50 grams in about 3 months. Husbandry is all spot on and he looks and acts completely fine. I wasn't too concerned until I weighed him.

A 50 gram loss at that weight shouldn't be much of a concern... but after three months of not eating you may want to try to get him eating again soon. Do you offer a rat once a week to see if he wants to eat?
Around 1000 grams is when many ball pythons tend to go off food.

Since he started his fast I started offering every other week. He will be due again tomorrow evening. Two weeks ago I really thought he was going to take it, man he acted very interested and smelled it over but refused. I left it in his enclosure turn off all the lights and came back a couple hours later and the goof ball was just out laying by it.
He was a pretty decent eater before this, and like I said he looks good and is acting completely normal. I hate to try live as getting him back on f/t may be a nightmare. He's always ate f/t before this fairly well as long as the rats weren't solid white and even them he'd eat it you left them over night.

If he seemed interested last time I would think he will likely take this time. Like I said I wouldn't worry too much about it unless he starts acting strange or looks visibly skinny.

Cool thanks. I debated about weighing him as like I said I wasn't real concerned but I figured I better and then it kinda worried me a little. Thanks again!!

I wouldn't be too worried about that kind of drop, personally. I've had some of mine that don't weigh that much to begin with drop almost that much weight in the form of a large poop!

I guess I'll just reassure it. But that much weight and the 1000 gram mark I wouldn't worry. I have a snake that will literally eat twice a year [emoji29][emoji29] and heathy as can be. She really hates eating I guess don't really understand it

As long as they stay hydrated with the appropriate humidity percent and a bowl large enough to soak in they should be able to withstand the food refusals. We just need to monitor the weight and maybe offer smaller sized meals bi monthly.

Thanks Albert. My humidity is 65%, he's caged in a T8. Has a bowl of good clean water plenty big for him to soak in but I've never seen him do that.
Going to try a small f/t rat again tonight. I have some f/t adult mice for my daughters corn snake but I hate to open that barn door. My daughters little Mohave is in deep blue so if she refuses tonight I may try giving Walter her fuzzy rat.
