Shipment from American Rodent! (quick question)

So I received my shipment from American Rodent as the title states, I typically order from big cheese.

I was surprise to see that the large mice I ordered are dark fur! :rolleyes:

I would have expected for the fur color to be listed but oh well.

My BPs are normal feed white mice and rats. Have any of you had to feed them dark fur mice after only ever feeding white mice?

When I use to buy live the pet store folks would ask me about color. They said many owners saw a difference in feeding response based on color.

My BP never showed a preference.

Now I have six more snakes and they are all on F/T. They all will eat any color offered to them.

That's my experience and I'm sticking to it. :)

I did a 'test feed' with my most hungry looking one, (my boy clown :D) and he ate without hesitation. So, hopefully neither will my others.

I think smell and temperature are more important.

I feed my BP white, cream and dark mice (because I buy whatever they have available at the store at the time) and she eats them all the same. Some people say that dark mice are better, especially for pickey eaters but I have never experienced a difference. I agree with Yodawagon. Temperature and smell are more important.

I've never had an issue with color, even with my picky boy, it's all about smell, temperature and wiggles if they need that

Mine eat any color I have.

I have never had an issue with color at all. From what I have read that seems to be a rather rare anomaly. I also agree that temp and scent have the most to do with it. I can also see size as being a possible issue too. Too large a prey may put some BPs off.

I've never had a dark furred rodent refused by any of my snakes.

Well, yesterday was feeding day.

I decided to warm up two dark fur rodents to see who would or not eat them.

6 were offered and 4 refused.
One of them actually struck at it but I believe it was defensive because it was not eaten.
My clown male ate one (again) and for poops and giggles I offered the other to my male normal who has been fasting and he ate it!! :bow: (I then warmed up an extra one fed him another! They're 30g-45g)

The ones who refused the dark ones ate the white ones with any hesitation, except for my Banjo (banana mojave lol). I think the dark one intimidated him so much that he went into his safe hide and didn't come back out. He's a fraidy cat.

I did try to rub the usual pups' scent on the new ones. They did seem interested in them, almost like a "who are you and what do you want?" type of engagement.

Any suggestions?
