    New python underweight?
    Hello,

I finally got my beautiful python yesterday. The breeder says she was born october but according to my scale, she weighs 112g. Also, he said she has been eating rat pups, which IMO is way too huge for a snake this size. What should I do? Im going to re-weigh her again today to be sure, but im not sure if I should dial her back to rat fuzzies or what.

She does look thin. Some more experienced (than me) owners on here can help you figure out a new feeding program.

Very beautiful by the way. Those orange blushes are amazing

IMO that snake is thin. Probably maintenance fed. I would offer a smallish rat pup or a largish rat fuzzy.

If it just arrived it should be in a QT setup: paper, one hide, water bowl, and treat as if it has mites until proven otherwise.

She does seem quite triangular shaped which if I'm not mistaken is an indicator that the snake is underweight. Iv also heard that it can be an indicator of parasites but someone please correct me if I'm wrong because I would like to know.
As for feeding I have a super pastel which was born on 1st of December and she is on rat fuzzies weighing 180g last time I weighed her
I also have a phantom born in august who is on rat chubs and weighs 255g. Nether of them look fat in any way but they don't look thin eather.
If she is eating a good size meal and not putting any weight on then I would have thought there is a problem somewhere.
Where I get my rats from the rat pup is the smallest one only up to about 15g?? and a rat fuzzy is around 15g - 25g?? So if the smallest one is what she is eating then it's probably not enough for her

Absolutely stunning snake tho. Hope everything works out.

Yes she is a caramel glow.

I only know that she was fed live pups, but i dont know how often or when her last feeding was. She has what looks like a small scar 3/4 of the way down her belly, about 2 inches long. If going by the girth method, a pup is way too big.. if going by the 10-15% weight rule, a pup is twice too big. I put in an order with big cheese, there fuzzies are 10-19g, pups are 20-34g.

Many times when you get them from breeders they're kept on a leaner diet. Your girl looks a bit thin but she'll bulk up fast once she's on a more growth oriented feeding regiment. She can most likely handle a rat pup now but it's fine to start her on fuzzys if you're more comfortable with those. I use the 10-15% of body weight feeding method as a more of a guideline than a rule. My younger or smaller snakes sometimes get a bit more food. I feed them every 5-7 days for the first year then I scale it back to weekly feedings. My adults eat every 10-14 days.
