Pythons are a tropical species; they do not hibernate or brumate.

Pythons and brumation
I will say that when my adult BP fasts for 5-6 months per year that she IS a pet rock. She exhibits almost no curiosity or movement. I usually don't handle her during this time.
Maybe this behavior is a self defense mechanism due to our more drastic weather change which they are not wired for.
Normally she comes towards me as soon as I walk in the room and follows me the best she can as I work around the snake room.
When I work in her cage she follows my hands, she's very inquisitive.
