Rack materials other than pvc and melamine?
Are there any good materials other than pvc and melamine? Melamine is heavy and eventually droops and pvc i would be spending the same amount building a rack than buying one.

I've used just plain wood on many racks in the past. Make it water resistant by laying on several coats of Urethane spar varnish (it's a type of varnish that's used on boats, it's heat and weather resistant)

have you checked Home Depot for pvc? I know pvc is not cheap but it works well and Home Depot carries it cheaper than anyone else

Like Mark said you can use what ever . A good plywood would work just prime/paint it, or polyurethane it either will work. It's what you want it to look like in the end.
