I use racks I only give a hide if they don't eat without it none of my adults have hides

It's better to provide an hide and it not being used than not provide one and it be needed.
If after a few months they don't use it you can remove them but at first I highly recommend that use hides and see what your animals do for a few months.
I no longer use hides but every now and than an animal will need it and therefore it is provided, this is where knowing your animals is very important.

I have 5 snakes in a tub rack. They all have a hide and use it.

Any ball python that's <400 grams gets a hide while living in shoebox bins (6 qts). If it's larger than that, it only gets a hide of it stops eating when the tub is removed.
