Whats going on with Panda Pieds?
How has the project progressed? There was a tremendous amount of initial interest but it seems to have petered out. I want to get some info from people who have experience with the project and its results.

How many have been produced ? Have there been panda pied X panda pied viable offspring? What are the mortality rates in full term clutches?

Why are people dropping the project?

Thought i would ask because my research isn't going anywhere and i know there are a lot of people in the community with a tremendous amount of knowledge that i could never find in a mere google search.

In my opinion, with pied being recessive and the Super of the black pastel having deformities, I don't think people want to use a female on it.

I believe ppl are trying to rush the project to much, I am going for panda pieds but I don't plan on actually producing one for probably about 5 more breeding seasons, even tho I have the capabilities of doing it sooner .... People are trying for the best odds and I think that is exactly what the problem is. I believe that using hets and crossing out several times during the process is a key factor ... However only time will

It's easy it has super black pastel in it, which , means they are prone to deformities.

Some are successfully hatched here and there and some breeders have tried and after they fail (severely difforme hatchlings) have decided not to persue that project anymore, like the Caramel Albino. When something has more failure than success it is not viable market wise or as a project.

The good news is that there is hope for a issue free black and white BP IMO but it will not be using a super black pastel but another morph that is very much underrated.

I have a black pastel pied that I had originally planned to produce a Panda with, but now that she's actually breeding size I've decided to move towards other black pastel pied combos...namely black pastel pixel pied, and eventually black pastel albino pied.

Back 5 years ago when I bought her I was more of the understanding that only super cinny had the deformities and that super black pastel was a 'safer' route. However time has shown that this isn't the case. So I dropped my Panda project in favor of healthier hatchlings.

That's kind of odd. The first 8 balls (what super black pastels were called for a while) were, I believe, produced by Gulf Coast Reptiles (the originators of the black pastel) and they were incredibly tweaked. duck bills, kinked spines, the whole bit. It makes no sense that they would be considered the safer route then cinnamon's.

The Suma Pied will be an awesome project for those that want the Panda Pied. Justin Kobylka should produce some this year I believe.

Michael Cole has a beautiful 0.1 panda pied up on Morph Market right now. What a gorgeous specimen with white labials and a black head. The girl looks perfect and has taken a bit of a price drop, but still pricey. He has some great black pastels as well.. There really aren't many panda pieds out there though.
