    Enclosure sufficient?
48"L x 21"T x 12"D aquarium. Will an adult carpet python be ok in this? Thanks, Dean

A 48" X 12" footprint sounds awfully long and narrow.

I've got two 48" X 24" footprint AP cages coming for my carpets - 36" tall for the JCP, and 24" tall for the Bredli. And given the way Yingarna the Bredli has grown since I got her, I hope that's going to be enough floor space.

Yeah, the depth is not ideal. I wonder if it would work with a bull snake? Would really prefer the CP but I have this tank empty and doing nothing. Requirement is the snake must be diurnal, somewhat active and not constantly in the hide during the day, larger than 5' long, a good eater of f/t. Any suggestions?

A 4x2x2 would be better but that tank could definitely work for a bull snake and I think you'll be ok with a carpet in there too. My 6.5 ft bull is in an AP T8 4x2x1 and she has plenty of room. My young carpets are in a split T8 for now but will upgrade to a 4x2x2 or 4x2x3 as they grow.

Ok. How are bull snakes to own? Good feeders of f/t and enjoyable to handle? Also, where can I get one?
    thanks ziggs

@ Dean- I LOVE both my bulls. They are monster feeders and both will eat anything I offer them (mice, rats, chicks asf). They're great to handle too. I'd say they're just as active as my carpets but more terrestrial. Both of my bulls were produced by Jason Nelson at Envy Reptiles. I think he produces some of the finest Pits in the country. I know he has a FB page and he sells a lot on Kingsnake.com . I'd highly recommend him. Here's a picture of my 2.5 y/o female and her enclosure. My 1.5 y/o male is about 5ft. He's in the enclosure above the female. IMO you can't go wrong with a bull or carpet. They're definitely my 2 favorite species of snakes besides an Eastern Indigo. :)

12 deep is to narrow for an adult carpet. You'll need twice that for the larger sub species. You might get away with 18 for some of the smaller ones. What type of carpet python?

Not sure. Picking y'all's brain is part of my information gathering to help me to determine which species of large snake I can raise in this enclosure. Maybe a CP or bull/ pine snake. Your thoughts?

@ Terminal- I believe the smaller carpets will probably be Jungles and IJs. Coastals, Diamonds, and Bredli tend to be on the larger side. I think your enclosure will work for a young bull or carpet but you may have to upgrade in about 2 years. the length and height are good but Dennis is correct, the 12" wide could get a little tight.

The guy at inland reptiles said any male would do ok in the aquarium. I'm going with that and will upgrade later down the road if needed.
