    Is this safe?
Can a male ball python 400 grams be bred to one female? once a month for 3 months.

It's about knowing your animal, and not over doing it and know when to stop breeding your male if you have to.

Can it be done? Yes - Should anyone do it? No - Will it yeld any results - Maybe

No sure why you plan on doing this for 3 months only though, you realize it might take more than 3 pairings to accomplish the job, or do you already have an idea on the follicular development of your female?

I understand it may take more then three pairings I was just questioning if it was actually safe and weather there was a difrance between 400 and 500 grams

While they can breed young the best results I have observed are from male 650 grams and up, I don't even waste my time with male smaller than that I just concentrate on growing them instead.

You have to weigh the risk against acceptable outcomes. I have a male I really wanted to breed this year because I have a targeted morph I want to produce but he is underweight. He is not the world's best feeder and I did not want to risk him going totally off food so I postponed. I did not want the planed females for the pairing to produce nothing this year so I went in a different direction. The male in question cost too much to risk and he may still not have produced anyway so just taking pure monetary motivations into consideration he did not get paired this year. Not to mention the fact that one of my daughters really likes that particular animal and I did not want to have to explain to her that we lost the snake because Daddy was in too big of a hurry. She still does not understand why another snake was "dating" the original one's girlfriend. ROFL

Why rush what could be done in a couple more months?
