Tarahumara Mountain Boa

Hello!
Currently, I have 2 ball pythons and a corn snake and i'm ready for something new.
I've been researching a bit on the Tarahumara boas because they're smaller than regular boas.
I have a few questions:
How big do they get?
What is their temperament like?
And what is a good, reputable breeder to get one from that will ship?

Hey there! I have a couple of these guys and they are one of my favorite species. They are the smallest of the dwarf boas. Adults are usually around the size of a ball python female (remembering that boas don't get as fat as BP). Temperament with my two has been that of any BCI, maybe a little hissy/strikey in the cage once in a while, but mostly fine once they're out. As with all boas, feeding time is another story. The best part about this species is that they are SLOW growing, and you definitely should not power feed to rush them. Take advantage of not having to upsize caging constantly and having a perpetually adorable "baby" boa!

I received my pair from Stephen at Scaly Babies and have no issue with recommending him. Vin Russo of Cutting Edge Herp is a very reputable person as well, but I'm sure other people will be along with more recommendations.

Dave Palumbo does a YouTube interview (Muscle Serpents University) with Russo and these tiny boas. Either the Tara, or the Pearl Island will likely be my first boa. Going to be a year or two, however.

I have two of these guys still recent additions. They are only supposed to get around 3-4ft. My two hiss and grumble about life when I open the cage to take them out but they don't strike. Once out they calm down pretty fast. I got both of mine from Brian Vuillemenot. He has an ad up on fauna not sure if he has sold them all or not yet. He answered all my questions and took pictures of quite a few of the babies while I decided on which ones I wanted or if I even wanted one.

I have 1.2 2013's, one female from Stephen at Scaley Babies in California, the other two from Vin Russo. All were very defensive as youngsters, no different than a BRB really. LOTS of hissing and nipping. They have all chilled out and are very easily handled now, but the females will still hiss a bit if all is not right in their world, like when they're in shed, and they want to be left alone.

The male is super tiny and he still rattles around in a 28-qt tub. I expect he will mature around four feet long - eventually. The females were just moved up to 41-qt tubs at the end of last year and I don't expect they'll outgrow them.

There are a lot of reputable breeders of pure Tarahumaras out there now. Search over on FaunaClassifieds.com for reviews and you will find several.
