    Definitely feeling follicles
I have a female Vanilla I have been pairing to a fire woma. I ended up selling him and started pairing her to a black pewter I had. The black pewter died of unknown causes after becoming extremely aggressive. I only paired the black pewter to her twice. Once in December and exactly three weeks later in January before he died. (I am not sure why he died, but that is for a different thread).

Both times the black pewter and my vanilla were paired, there was a definite lock both times. Trying not to make this sound too difficult.

I started paring the vanilla to the fire woma starting October. She locked four times with him.

In December I introduce the black pewter for the first time. In January, I started to feel follicles, but being this is my first time, I decided to count it as nothing to not get my hopes up. I introduced the Black pewter again at the beginning of January.

Since I planned to introduce a male again on thursday, I decided to feel for follicles today and this time it is for sure follicles. They feel just slightly smaller then a golf ball. But they are definitely there. At this point, she has been soaking in her dish a lot. I am guessing this her way of cool seeking. Usually the first four inches of her body (head and neck) are submerged and the rest of her body, not exactly bowl wrapping but on the cool end of the tub. I haven't witnessed an ovulation yet.... I think.

Sorry for making this so long. At this point, do I continue to introduce a male? With the fire woma gone and the black pewter dead, I am not sure which one to introduce but I do have a couple in mind. Should I continue to pair her with a male?

If you paired her with the black pewter and the black pewter died of unknown cause ... and now she is soaking in her dish .... I wouldn't pair her with anything else, to avoid they risk of potential spread of something .... If you would have had the dead black pewter checked out and verified why he died then I was say go ahead .. but if it were me in your current predicament, I would hold off until I was sure there are no health issues

I am very sure it isn't anything contagious. Otherwise the females I paired him with in October would be dead by now. But they are doing just fine. I am not concerned at all. So yes, I am sure. So I will add another male in on Thursday.

I don't know maybe it's just me. But if I would be super concern if one of my bp turn super aggressive than died with no apparent symptoms. I mean just for curiosity sakes don't you want to find out what happened?

This, plus how can you be so certain what it died of isn't contagious? Snakes are masters at hiding it when something is wrong with them, so you can't go by what time his symptoms started showing as the 'beginning' of whatever killed him. Are you an expert in snake sicknesses? Cryptosporidiosis? BPNV? SFD? Just saying, there are strange things out there and I'm not saying your snake had it, but can you be sure he didn't? And that he didn't pass it on?

In my original post, I said the case of my snake's death was a different topic. I am wondering if I should continue to add males at this point with her follicles being as large as they are. Please stick to the topic. I guess I will have to learn myself and I will add a new male on Thursday. If they lock then I guess my guess was correct.

I understand that you say the other snake was a different topic but it is still relevant. Everyone is rightly concerned that the deceased male could have a transmittable disease and now the female could have it. Why would you want to pass a possible disease to the rest of your collection? That is the point being made. If you don't care about possibly passing a deadly disease to another one of your animals then I would say pair away. I do find that utterly irresponsible though. Just my opinion.

This x1000. But hey, if having eggs is more important to you than the health of your animals, by all means pair away. If what the male had ends up being communicable and kills off your animals, don't cry about it to the people who advised you to be cautious. Now, had a necropsy been done and you had a verified, irrelevant cause of death that would be an entirely different matter. But you don't. And rather than plan for the worst case scenario, you're choosing to focus on the potential eggs that might be produced from an animal that may or may not also be infected. I'm not even certain why you bothered to ask the question when you are choosing to ignore the very obvious health risks to your collection. Hxxx, I don't know why that female wasn't immediately put into quarantine after the male she was paired with died.

And if this tirade hurt your poor feelings, I'm not going to apologize. The animals' health is greater than any possible offense caused. At least, that's how it should be. But this is obviously another case of 'I didn't hear what I wanted to, so I'm going to ignore it.'
