My future... :-\

I've been going through a LOT of jobs that I want to do when I get out of college, and I can't decide what I want to do. The original plan was to go to a community college for 2 years, then transfer to Michigan State University for the other 2 years and become a Vet Technologist. But, I REALLY want to work with reptiles more than fuzzy cute dogs/cats.

I tried thinking of the places I could work, and what I could do, but I'm clueless. Besides a zoo, where would some one like me work for a living? I want to specialize in reptiles/amphibians.

Any ideas??? High school ends in 2 months, and I'm starting to get nervous because I want to change my entire game plan. :(

maybe reptile breeder? other than a zoo or a specific reptile vet i dont think there is much, but thats just in my knowledge, which aint much. :)

i would try not to worry to much, people switch half way through collage and highschool what they wanna do and hey, your future has to be looking alot better than mine is right now :)

Vet Tech is a fun job! I have 3 classes left and I will be DONE! Finally... I go to a community college and it is a 2-year program. Just get your basics done; english, math, history, or see what is in the vet tech curriculum and take the classes you can at the community college, and then have them transfer those over to MSU when you get accepted in the vet tech program. Much cheaper.

For places to work, you could always volunteer at the zoo in the reptiles/amphibians department, or at a vet that specializes in reptiles/amphibs, small animals, exotics. Something of that sort. You can always start as a cage cleaner in any vet office now, while you're still in high school, and work your way up. They can always give you a good recommendation when going to another clinic or zoo that specializes in what you are interested in.

OR, you could always get a vet tech degree and then go get a bachelors degree in Biology, specializing in reptiles. There are alot of different degrees you could go for. You could always try to go work in a cancer research facility. Two of my classmates are doing that for a Scott and White Hospital in Temple, TX.

Thanks Becky, it did. I actually work at a Veterinary Hospital/kennel right now, but the person who did reptiles left 5 years ago. :( The only pets besides dogs and cats that we get are guinea pigs and ferrets. Boooo
