Please tell me I'm not the only one that's done this!
I feel so incredibly stupid right now!!

I ordered feeders near the beginning of January for my 2 balls. I have a 600g+ male and a 350g+ female (not exact on numbers since my scale broke). Anyway. Male was on rat pups and female was on weaned. I wanted to bump her up to the next size since she always seemed hungry, so I placed an order for some rat pups and spent $120...

I thought the feeders looked a little small but I didn't really pay attention. I've been feeding them since the beginning of January and just happened to look at the bag when I took two out of the freezer to thaw a few minutes ago... and written on the bag is 'weaned rats'.

I ordered a crapload of weaned rats instead of pups!! So my poor boy has been eating much smaller meals than he's used to...

    Gah!!

I live in a small city and there's not really many here with snakes. Impossible to trade them for a different size and I'm not going to bug the breeder since it was totally my fault (and they're from 2 hours away). I went back through our messages and I totally ordered weaned rats instead of pups.

    Bummer!!!

Hopefully my male can deal with eating these little weaned rats until I'm out and can get a bigger size. I just can't afford to buy a different size of rats right now!!

Well your going to feel even more silly than that when I tell you this then ........

Weaned rats are bigger than rat pups ....

Lol yup weaned are bigger, they have eyes open and self sufficient. Pups are still crawlers which some people call instead of pups. On a side note though, you can just double up on the feeding until you are done with them.

But aside from my above post picking at ya

He will be just fine .... If need be you can feed him every 5 days instead of the 7 or 10 day schedule you had him on ..... I think a weaned rat is a little small for a 600+gram ball python but that depends ... I have also seen some pretty big sized "weaned" as the supplier called them

The only reason I still have him on weaned rats is because I don't have a scale right now to know his exact weight. I know he's right around 600g but I'd rather be 100% sure before I bump him up to small rats. The smalls from the breeder are a pretty good size and I'm a worry-wart.

Should I bump him up to smalls anyway? I can grab one from the local petstore for his next feeding...

It's not a big deal really, just use your judgment on his girth and the girth of the size feeder your giving him .... If you can't see the bump in him still 15 minutes after he gets it down then I would probably feed every five days (this is my personal opinion) the 600g mark is usually when I switch to small rats, so your not far from that

This should give you an idea of exactly how much bigger the prey is. :) Hope it helps.
